You bought a $1009 Disco and then drove it 4000kms - Melbourne/Adelaide/Darwin without issue. Mate - you have the luck of the Irish. It looks to be a real neat Disco in the pics. You have done extra well for your self.
With my luck if I tried your trick the engine would overheat before I even started it and a diff would be sitting on the ground.
Enjoy your Disco mate.![]()
I'm confident it isn't. From what I've read a new solenoid is worth a few hundred dollars, and as it isn't effecting the performance of the car and that it is going to pretty much live off road I'm not going to bother fixing it. Unless I need to pull the GB out, I'll leave it as is. The oil is in good condition - visually and by smell, plus the box doesn't slip, nor hunt for gears or delay when going between P-R-N-D I'm happy enough.
4th is od , that is revving way to high to be in top gear.

I can count, feel the gear changes into fourth, and even hold the car back in third. It is kicking into fourth about 80ish ks. I just believe it isn't locking up. Maybe, just maybe, the car has 4.11s in it already! That would make me happy. It already has fully greasable unis which I also believe aren't stock. On both ends of both shafts there are grease nipples.
245/75 R16 HiFly MT601s are getting fitted tomorrow. I wanted the cheapest mud tyres I could get. I figured if they do 80% of the expensive tyres job, I'll be happy. There will be bigger limitations before the tyres give out anyway. Mainly diff clearance issues.
I'm only going to be driving the car on occasion, so tyre life also isn't an issue, nor is ride quality (to a degree). I'll snap some pics tomorrow when they are fitted up and I'll hopefully be out doing some wheeling this weekend!

Being over 20 years old the uni's are probably just replacements, if you have a uni in the rear diff end then you either have a very early 94 build or the shaft has been replaced with an earlier D1 or RRC uni shaft.
I doubt it has 4.11's without having a big lift and chopped guards but your rpm at 100kph is a worry.

I'm curious as to what is causing my rpm issue. As the trans oil is, by appearance and smell in good condition. No overheating issues. Drove 4000km through the desert for 12h at a time without a drama.
Guess time will probably tell on that one!
Tyres fitted up, I'm feeling much more manly now!
One more pic as I can't seem to upload more than one at a time as it simply removes all but the first.
