    Drafts. I was looking at 30mm spacers just to bump it up. But if it is going to cause the springs to compress and bind I'll bin that idea....

    A mate has a stock land cruiser troopy, which has 235/85r16 tyres on it, that he is thinking of upgrading in the future.

    Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the 235/85 compared to the 245/75? They are 1.2" taller, but a fraction narrower. I was mostly curious as to what people thought for the drive/gear ratios are like? Is the increased height worth the reduction in width? Just general comments. I assume I require a lift for them?

    Went out four wheeling! Had a great time. Little bit of mud. Tested it out in the rocks, bit of general blasting. Learning what the car can and can't clear, it's approach and departure angles, ramp over angles etc.

    I got lucky on the mound I bellied out on. I assumed it would just be a ramp down. Not a drop over onto a massive rock! So, I was saved by bellying it. Had a mate at work all of 3 km away, in a D2 disco, auto, v8, same colour as mine, pull me down.

    I took 15seconds of air out (I find it is typically 2sec/psi) of the rears while I was out here too. So on the way home went to a petrol station to re inflate them. The fronts were 49psi, and rears 45! So, they are now 32. Ride is nicer, and road noise has dropped a little too. I assume the shop set them at max load, or max economy... Tyres actually have a bit of bulge now. Should help with the rocks next time!

    Thats what i did. Made my own spacers and bump stops.

    Did you not find you were getting binding? If not, how do you prevent it?

    Space the bumpstops down a tad, you loose a bit of compression travel but that's not always a bad thing.


    On the rear of my Rangie I just tacked some 25x50 RHS onto the bumpstop pads on the diff housing. More to stop the tyres rubbing on the edge of the std guards at full compression, but idea is the same. Spacing the actual bumpstop would be nicer, but I had half an hour to come up with something before a trip

    The more I read the more I am lead to believe the spacers are more to correct a sagging spring, or to lift the rear for a heavy load. Not so much for a lift for actual 4wding.

    I've also developed a slight tick. I almost valve bounced the car yesterday as I was going through mud if slipped out if 4H locked and as a result was pretty much like nailing it in neutral. Unsure if it is related. Is around the 2500 rpm mark. Only in gear. Doesn't do it in park of neutral.
