Question New Disco owner; Dodgy Auto

    Hi All

I have recently purchased what appears to be a very well kept Series 1 Disco

    3.9 V8, Auto (Dual Fuel)

    1997 Land Rover Discovery 3.9Ltr V8i 4x4 7 Seats Dual Fuel, 219074, Auction (0001-3404087) | GraysOnline Australia

On my way home; I thought I had won the lottery.

    Interior presents beautifully

    V8 Purrs.

    Great service history

All glass and panel work in VGC

Auto got me home without a hitch ( about 70 km Drive with a few stops on the way)

Once home though, the gear box dumped it load on local roads and in my drive. It sprayed Transmission fluid from where the bell housing meets the engine. I have topped it up and the box is again operable but the fluid is being ejected quite readily.

Is this a common problem. Does any one have aaguess at what the problem is?

Any good transmission guys around the Lilydale area? I have used Lilydale autos before and rate them quite well but they are away on holiday

With the rest of the car in such good nick I am considering doing a transmission upgrade and install a Nomad valve Body at the home of Nomad in Bayswater. Has any one out there used wholesale automatics and how do you rate them. Also is the Nomad valve body worth the quid.

    Thanks fellas

    Viney

Most likely the trans cooler lines have a split or leak in in one of them , not that common but not rare.
New lines will fix the issue .

Check for tightness, big nut on dipstick tube where it enters gearbox sump, both tail nuts on in and out oil cooler pipes adjacent to the dipstick nut, good luck, Regards Frank.

Great looking D1. V8 with auto is a joy to drive. Yes, I'd suspect the cooler pipes too, one under the trans, the other enters on top (harder to get at). They're available new, I got the complete set from Island 4x4 in the UK for a good price.

spraying means its most likely a fracture on the flare of the pipe for the cooler, track it down, remove it and head to pirtek or enzed and ask them to replicate the pipe or repair it for you.

since its happened this is an ideal time to drop all the oil, inspect/clean the pan and replace the filter before initiating the rest of a progressive fluid flush.
