No gasket needed silastic or alike![]()
Hey guys,
Upon inspection of my oil sump theres beading oil sitting on the bolts after noticing some leaking going on around that area. I cleaned up the whole area and did a 2nd inspection a day later just to make sure, i'm 99% sure the oil leak is coming from the sump sealer.
SO i go looking for a replacement and find information online of the 300TDI not having a seal/gasket and people advising to use silastic or another kind of sealant on it.
However! I did find this - Land Rover Parts - GASKET - SUMP - L/ROVER 300 TDI
on no, it's a dedicated sump gasket, what to do now!!
So yes, i'm a bit confused. If I buy the gasket will it do the job or does it have to be done using a sealant?
Thanks folkshave a good one. It's getting cold in Vic so i'm heading to N.W Western Australia in 2 weeks - need to iron out my creases!

it can go either way.
the secret to stopping the oil on the bolts is loctite on the threads and a bead of sealstic at the shank/head join.

Thanks man, I'm going to try the locktite before trying to replace the sealant and see how I get on, i have a feeling that may just be the problem!
To make it even better, I had sealant on mine, it wasn't leaking but removed the sumo to clean the oil pick up and fitted a gasket and I'm yet to see any leaks. Still as dry as ever. Dave will attest to my often poor quality of work, however it is holding up.
