    Range Rover alloys

Disco came with some rrc alloys fitted and a set of original steels. What's the better fit, any advantage with the rrc spec or did PO fit just for looks?

Found the rrc spare rim rattled on the stock door carrier, cannot be tightened enough due to studs too long for alloy bolts. Any tricks for that?

Both RRC alloys and D1 steelies spec'd as 16x7 +33 offset, so fit wise its pretty much the same.

They didn't rattle on my D1 wheel carrier, but think I may have had washers between the back of the rim and the carrier due to the tyre (245/75) touching the door.

Ok so same spec, rrc alloy probably a bit lighter but I doubt that translates to anything significant.

Maybe the spare issue is to do with the alloy nuts I have, they stop turning before they clamp the rim whilst the steel nuts do all the way down.

Apart from that and the range rover branding on the cover plate I have no issue with the rrc rims. Think I will revert to freshly painted steels if I can't figure out a tidy solution for spare mount.

    Thanks

Trim the studs down a bit. Mine have since been replaced with M16 bolts, factory studs all eventually broke out from the carrier.

Get some nuts used for the steels wheels and wind them on all the way. Put the alloy wheel on and the alloy nuts.

If they are too long, use some thick washers.

Yep that's how I found it initially and thought it was causing the rattle. I got rid of rattle by placing wheel first then steel nuts to clamp then alloy nuts for finish. Works but not good for alloy.

I think adding spacer washers probably simplest, tidiest solution.

    Cheers.

My disco 1 spare carrier has the same problem with the alloy wheel nuts. Just use the original spare wheel nuts - problem fixed. Unless you want to go to all the drama just for looks. I an sure you could find some at a wreckers.

Looks shouldn't be an issue as you all should have one of these tyre covers

The wheel carrier nuts have depressions on the top of the cap,, as opposed to all the other wheel nuts on your car. Only those fit on the carrier.

What do you mean you've lost them?
