I always fit Bendix pads, work well, no squeal, virtually no brake dust.
My D1 stops ok but just ok.
Solid rotors.
Soon I am likely to be towing a light unbraked camper weighing about 400kg.
Are there any brake pads that perform better than others as I would like to improve my braking by 10 to 20% for towing safety if I can.
I am ok with faster wear if that is necessary.
Thanks

I've got the TRW/Lucas pads on mine and it stops very good though I've renewed or rebuilt every bit of the braking system except for the hard lines. I got them from MR auto and they said they are good but don't bring them back if they squeal. I put some anti squeal paste on when fitting and haven't heard a peep out of them.

Have you checked the existing system is working properly? Parts like brake booster and rubber lines are getting pretty old.

I tow 500 kg regularly on a stock D1 and hardly notice it. I've replaced booster and vacuum pump (several times). Pads are fairly standard - Bendix I think. Front rotors have been replaced with stock.
When did you last change fluid? That can help, mainly by flushing any rubbish out of the cylinders.
1.5t braked is a different matter, but mainly engine power on the 300 Tdi (I wouldn't say that's too bad either).
One is a 16 ft catamaran, the other a 24 ft trimaran so both very large profile and wind resistance.
Thanks for all the advice.
I will start with flush and fluid change and go from there.
Hasnt been done for at least 6 years!
Will update thread with results.
