    Confused! What is this?

    1996 Discovery 1 3.9 V8i (petrol/gas)

I'm new to Landies and know just enough about cars to get myself into trouble.

On the back left corner of the LH rocker cover, there is a hose (see pic).

In the Workshop Manual it seems like it's where the PCV intake filter should be (according to the diagram)

Question is, what is it? where should it connect?

    Thanks in advance.

Should travel around to the airbox and plug in to the lid outside edge near the guard should be a little fitting there.

    Makes sense.
Only issue is the previous owner has removed the stock airbox and put in a 'cold air' intake, which has no fitting. I could add a fitting ... or track down a stock airbox.

In the short term am I ok to leave it disconnected?

yep, you can leave it disconnected (but leave it open) its function is to allow airflow into the crank case so the block doesn't wind up at a low pressure from the crank case scavenge.

The fitting allows fresh (filtered) air to enter the LH rocker cover to reduce the chance of condensation forming there. When I installed LPG on D1's I often fitted an alternate air cleaner, putting a small brass nipple into the air intake just after the element, before the MAF. Failing that a small plastic petrol line filter could be mounted to the fitting by a short hose.

Think that's what I'll do. There's a good spot I can put a nipple in between the element and the MAF.

    Cheers.
