    Motor swap 93 v8i to 4.2

So my engine is getting abit tired just wondering how simple or hard it is to change my 3.9 to 4.2? Or even just a later model 3.9 with the serpatine belt?. I can get both these motors cheaper then what it would be to rebuild this one.

There is no such thing as a 4.2 unless you live in UK where LWB RRC Classics had them. the 4.0 litre has the same capacity as the 3.9. It is a marketing 50 CCs.
As all later V8s are backward compatible then you can put a later short engine in and use your Vbelt front end etc.
You have to fit a spacer to the crank if using a later block with the new oil pump however if you can get a later engine with ALL of the accessories ( which is pretty rare) you could fit it, however you would have to probably make up wiring etc.
This only applies to 3.9 litre with 14CUX. If you wanted later Thor or even GEMS then you would have to get the looms and ECUs and even then you may have problems with no ABS etc unless you used the v belt front and all the manifolds and injectors etc from your engine.

Graeme Cooper gave up stroking 3.5s to 4.2s many many years ago as he had many come back with shifting sleeves.

I doubt that there are many suppliers of 4.2 kits any more however Real Steel in UK may be a source.

Phillip is right, strokers went out the window once the 4.6 came out.
From a 3.5 i would just get a low K 3.9 from a later D1, do a little porting and some exhaust mods.

There is absolutely no point putting a second hand stocky 3.9 in unless your 3.5 is actually broken. The extra few hundred cc won't actually make much difference to anything other than the fuel consumption (which goes up). Oh and the 3.9 blocks are more likely to crack so your chance of picking up a dud one is a lot higher. All motors newer than yours can be retrofitted with some minor mods and front timing cover swaps as needed. Complete serpentine belt motors will require you to adapt all the hoses and wiring to match. You're better off saving your bikkies and building up a 4.6 core with the best possible parts and sticking that in when you're good and ready.
