    Identify your d1

Hay guys came across some very usefull info today that i thought i would share.

Rang a landrover/rangerover specialist today anout parts and he needed my vin so i read it out to him and hes told me its one of the oldist vins for a d1 he has hurd.
I asked him what he ment by that and informed me that the last digits of the d1 vin is its run of the production line like a hsv has 001-300 for instance.

Mine was built the year and month the discovery was introduced and exported to aus witch is april 91.

He then went on to explane that the aus version of the d1 came with its own set of vin numbers unlike the other countrys so the vin could be decoded down to where it come from (in the uk) the engine type, gearbox, doors and its production off the line for aus persificly.

Hope some of you d1 owners find this info usefull.

My d1 is number 008084 off the line from the release month and year of the d1 for aus april 91.

Also this site gives you a run down for decoding.

AFAIK that info is on all LR's with a VIN. Our private import RR, previous UK built Freeo, and all the other LR vehicles I've owned have the same info available.
Thanks for the link, it's always good to have extra information sources.
