300tdi rebuild, oem or aftermarket parts?

Ive bought a 300tdi disco that has the engine out of it and the head off for reasons unknown. I am wanting to give it a freshen up and would like to know whether to use oem parts or which aftermarket brands to use or avoid. I still need to get it measured to see if it will need boring

    Cheers

I used Turners in the UK for all the internals.
A little dearer than most, but quality parts.

The other 2% made it home.

Cost difference between Britpart and Genuine seals: £2.04. Knowing that your brakes won't fail at any moment: Priceless.

Bottom end will probably get away with rings and bearings if it has modest mileage.

Hopefully thats all it needs as it would save a few $$ that could go towards other parts.

The britpart parts seem really cheap, are they ok or best avoided?

    Avoid Britpart like the plague.

They aren't known as ****part for nothing.

    Bearmach make/sell quality parts, but IME;

    Pistons. Kolbenschmidt (OE supplier)

    Bearings. King

Head. AMC (Turners are good for this, buy fully assembled)

    Injectors. Bosch. (OE supplier)

I too used Turners for a lot of bits, although the porting in the 'ported' head was pretty average. I think I said at the time it looked like the work experience kid did it !
I spent about eight to ten hours or so reworking it, but their service is exceptional.

As far as OEM (Land Rover parts)are concerned, if the quality of their Valve Lash Caps is any guide, then I would buy aftermarket, Pistons, rings, bearings, gaskets, should all be readily available and probably cheaper, certainly better Quality, Regards Frank.

Is the old headgasket still around? You'll want it to identify which one to buy. There are ways around that, but it's much simpler if it's there.

I'd check with Mario about some of the parts. Some Britpart bits are fine, others are made of cheese and recycled chocolate wrappers. Mario shifts a lot of parts, and has never steered me wrong on quality.
