    Differential pinion

Can any one please help me. Replaced my pinion seal on the back diff of my tdi 1994 discovery and still leaking. wondering if I should replace the pinion as well and if so how do I identify what type of diff I have. Also when I removed the tailshaft I also removed the hand brake drum and found that also has oil over the brake lining . The worst thing is I replaced that seal 12 months ago as well. Oh it can be so frustrating I'm wondering if some parts aren't always the best quality
Or it is just how it is.

This is a Baum it says on the seal. That's interesting I polished the surface where the seal runs with some fine wet and dry. It did does have a very fine mark on it. Any good place to buy parts on line maybe.

Re the hand brake oil leak, when you replaced the out seal, did you also replace the little felt crush washer or just reuse the old one? . Trick with replacing the felt washer is a little dab of RTV silicon on the underside so the RTV oozes into the shaft splines as the felt is crushed by the washer and nut and seals that also. Quality of seals used is also a point?

    Check your diff breather
If it is blocked the seal may leak when heat builds up
My S3 had a leaking pinion seal and a blocked breather
Cleaned the breather- no more leak
