    200TDI coolant leak

I discovered a leak today behind the engine. I suspected a head gasket but inspection with a mirror shows a welch plug or frost plug there that has a pinhole leaking a fine squirt of coolant.
Whats the fix for this? Engine out, or head off or a holesaw through the firewall?

If its running fine then I would pull the motor rather than remove the head.

is it a plug on head or block? might be easier to get to on head. without pulling motor out or removing head. as stated above, you dont really wana pull it apart if running well. i know when i was doing head on mine it was recommended to change all the plugs on block but i didnt have time to pull block out. i know one of the members, blknight said it is possible to change these without actually removing engine. by being a contortionist or by lifting the engine up a little but not all the way out.

This is a 200 TDI in a series one 88"
I have only had it on the road a few months and dont really want to pull it to bits as its going well.
I think I will cut a hole in the bulkhead and try and replace it that way.
Its the plug in the head , half covered by the lift bracket.
I have insulation both sides of the bulkhead I have to cut through as well. Its a bugger.

Can you drop the engine mounts and lower it forward enough to reach it ?

Not in this case. Cant even see it without a mirror. I think its a cup type not a dome, but cup ones I have done on old engines need room at the rear to get through. I usually smack a hole in them with a screwdriver and lever the old one out.
    How do others do it?

Its back on the road again now.
I could not justify pulling the head so cut a hole in the firewall with a hole saw. It will plug up again and I will cover it with the Vehicle number/ Hi low gear change plate
