Mine was up to 430k when unfortunately it got written off but was still running well.
Hey guys just bought a manual 95 300tdi discovery with 240km for $1700 went out on limb since it had an unknown fuel issue. Took it into the landy shop and turns out it had an almost completely rooted injector pump so got a 2nd hand one thrown in there and timing belt done at the same time. Just wondering for how manys km it has on it what should i be getting checked and replaced for a service cheers in asvance for any help

Yeah as soon as the injecyor pump went in she started running like minter was pretty glad with that
I'd be looking at changing oil in diffs/gearboxes, all new filters, clean out sediment trap, repack wheel bearings, (check brakes while at it), thoroughly check uni joints, coolant and turbo hoses (go for silicon ones), fit an egt and proper temp gauge, then prepare for many years of happy motoring!

Check to make sure you have plenty of hand cleaner .. and if you do have plenty... get some more!
As already said, the obvious oil changes and there's lots of oils to change.
Give it a good clean underneath if it has obvious signs of gunk/dirt build up.
Checking for leaks afterwards.
Are you handy, or could you be bothered doing stuff yourself?
Pull out the intercooler and inspect for large build up of oily contamination. With the intercooler hoses off(at both ends) also check inside the intake manifold for oil build up too.
It will have oild build up if you care to wipe it all out, but ...
If there is a lot of dripping oil, also replace the cyclone crankcase breather as well. I got a couple off ebay pretty cheap .. $20-30 or so. This is the black thing on the drivers side of the rocker cover with two hoses coming off it. one loops towards the front then to the back, and the other comes out sideways and then down into the engine.
If you have lots of oil dripping out, you'd want to clean out the intercooler and intake manifold when you have a cyclone to change as well.
Temp gauge is probably the most important add on, EGT second important.
Mine runs normally at about 83°C, but with the aircon on, on a very hot day and struggling up a hill with a car load of camping gear and kids .. the aftermarket gauge reads 100+°C, and the dash gauge still sits where it usually does(middle of the range) when it's at 83°C!
ie. Landrover thinks a normal operating range is anywhere between about 80-105°C before it gives you any warning that the engine is running hot at all(and you can do something about it before it's too late).
So if the dash temp gauge starts to climb above normal .. as the saying goes .. it's too late! You have no idea that the coolant is already past about 110°C and if you turn off the engine at those temps, you could then have heat soak/build up, and it could do more damage.
Enjoy, and happy discovering!![]()

Biggest threat to a 300tdi's is poorly maintained cooling system. As others have said, get a low water alarm and a digital temperature guage as the standard guage will only warn you that you are overheating after the motor is already cooked. New hoses and, unless you know that the reservoir is recent/new, replace it ASAP (this is vital). Many of us on here use Roverlord Offroad spares (Mario and his wife Heather) who is a member here and highly reccomemnded. He has an ebay store, but I would encourage you to message him direct here and he will take a few dollars off as he avoids paypal and ebay fees.
Cheers and good luck,
Tom.

Thanks for all the info guys ill sure be getting in there this weekend and checking all those suggest things and ill get on to those gauges as well since ive heard from everyone ive talked to about those trusty landy temp gauges
as an owner of a 300TDi and as said before an engine monitor (temp gauge) is a must as it measures the temp of the metal not the water or lack of
another thing that wasnt mentioned is with yours at 240k i would be thinking of the head gasket,
it is fairly common for them to go at 250k and often it is a new head time
mine did just around the time i spotted the post on it, but then with help from the information on these pages
i got a head from UK that was a FAR better price than what i could do in Australia
