Abs problem I need to fix for roadworthy

So I had a intermittent light on my dash the anti lock light would stay on abbot half the time well it stayed on when going for my roadworthy so now have 4 days left to fix it.
I first tried cleaning all the sensors cause something was pointing towards a sensor no changes, so I grabbed another set of sensors from another vehicle swapped them inn and now light won't go out this is last thing I need to fix before number plates anyone else have any ideas

Removing light right now not exactly an option as they will be looking at it when I take it back have tried other sensors with no luck

My advice is take it to a Brake Specialist and get them to diagnose what's wrong, then if you have the expertise you may be able to do the repair yourself, I would never advise someone to try and fix brakes themselves, too dangerous, whats your life worth, Regards Frank.

That's currently my plan of attack though I do have rwc now by going elsewhere and removing globe but since this car is for the missus and she inexperienced she may require the abs so really would like it fixed.
Was given number of a guy near Ballarat who only deals with landys so gonna get in contact with him see if he can narrow the problem down

The ABS systems used on D1s are of a very basic design. In my experience they are better left disabled altogether. You have not had a scare until you push the brake pedal and it starts modulating the brakes as you try to stop hitting something. Keep the rest of the system in good order and you will never need ABS. It was after all originally developed for icing conditions, something that is rare in Australia.

At the risk of starting an argument, I will have to call you wrong on most points.
Not developed for icy conditions, but to prevent uncontrollable sliding under heavy braking. The "scare" from the pedal modulations is exactly why you should get anyone who hasn't driven with abs to do some practice panic stops. It's whole claim to fame is that it allows you to concentrate on avoiding the obstacle, rather than feeling for feedback from the brakes.
I agree that the D1 setup is basic, but it still works - interesting on loose gravel, but you should be traveling slower then, anyway. Abs problem I need to fix for roadworthy Abs problem I need to fix for roadworthy

Not looking to argue, just stating my experience. I would like to know how you do a "practice stop" however.

I do practice stops by putting one wheel off yhe side of the road and hitting the anchors. Works well.

Back to the problem posted by the original poster however...

I have found that clearing the errors and THEN removing the two front sensors, cleaning them and replacing them usually gets them going again for a week or so. Do a search on here for "blink test". That should show you how to read the errors and how to clear them and go from there.

See the link in the 2nd post; '96 Disco Tdi with ABS playing up - any ideas?
