    T case drip

    So parking at my new job has showed me a new leak on the disco, (used to park on dirt) now on concrete. I was under her today fixing up my track rod guard when I observed my T case has a few drips of oil on the bolts on the sump. So my question is, is this quite normal or do many other people have this issue? The T case and auto combo is only a few months old and still under warranty so I might drop in tomorrow when I'm heading past if I have time. Ultimately I just want to find out if it's something I have to worry about, I'll be checking the level when I'm there or when I get home tomorrow. And yes I know the comment that there's no oil if it's not leaking...

    The leaking Lt230 transfer is rather common between the discovery/defender models. Sometimes it can be as simple as the rear output housing bolts loose or the output seals leaking. Most times I’ve performed a transfer case “reseal” it ends up being the transfer intermediate shaft O-ring.

    In the case of it being the intermediate shaft o-ring or the transfer box input or transmission extension housing output seals it’s a transfer out job in which case you’re better off doing all the seals.

    If it’s one of the first ones I’ve mentioned it’s usually rather straight forward. Best case if it’s not obvious is to degrease her Down and monitor frequently to best isolate the source of the leak.

    The drips of oil on the bolt heads on that hold the bottom plate, some of them screw into the oil cavity, thread sealer is needed on them other wise the oil wicks past the threads.

    Checked and degreased

    Just got home from work after noticing the patch in the carpark... Went home and filled up the tcase with 80w90 gear oil, must have been a few hundred ml at least (I forgot to mark on the bottle beforehand). Degreased it after topping it up.and will check it tomorrow at some stage, if it continues to be a problem after this weekend (in terms of the source being higher up the Tcase) I'll speak to MR, don't really want it getting any worse.

    You have two places the T case will leak between the G/box and T case. The imput shaft seal and the mid shaft O ring seal. Just did mine for a second time after I damaged the first seal. Then found my mid shaft leaking as well but plugged it for now with Knead it. Only needs to hold until I get my old G/box rebuilt.
