I got myself a cheapie knockoff Safari from ebay.
This kit moves the air box up and back to make room in the spare battery tray on the passengers side.
It comes with all the fittings and brackets to affect the mod.
There is a blanking plate/grommit in the kit to seal off the original intake port on the airbox and there was a new metal intake port doodad supplied and you need to cut a new access port in the air box for the new snorkel intake port
Pretty easy stuff, I remember paying $85 for mine, and I got a cheapie 83mm holesaw to cut the panel to fit the snorkel.
About the hardest part of the operation as I remember it, was removing the inner plastic panel between the outer quarter panel and inner quarter panel.
Needs to be removed to allow the fitment of the tube between snorkel and airbox(s-shape) and the large clamps.
The s shaped tube in the kit was plastic(hard plastic), but I would have preferred either a rubber or silicon type.
Depending on the D1 model(early or late) and where the power steering reservoir is located .. it's easy to then just plonk a battery into the new clear battery tray area. Easy to work out bracket fitting placements and all that stuff.
If you can't be stuffed moving the power steering reservoir, I've kind'a worked out that the largest battery size you can fit in the tray is a NS70.
If you move the reservoir you can easily get a N70ZZ(basically truck battery) in there.
My theory with the best all rounder battery type to use was primarily based around modularity .. or lowest common denominator.
That is, worst case scenario, if my start battery simply committed suicide(eg. dead cell or just plain old weak build quality) .. and I had to replace it without access to services, I could exchange the Aux battery into the start battery's spot and continue on.
So I made a concerted decision to get an Aux battery the same size and terminal config to suit the start battery position too.
I'll try to get some pics of the air box install as soon as I can for 'ya. The only problem is that you won't see the large metal bracket that moves the underside mount holes(where the air box is pushed into to hold it into place).
Arthur.
