    Dual Battery Snorkel Mods

I'm looking for some pics of dual battery setups where a snorkel is installed and what mods were done to connect to the air cleaner box. I have a mantec snorkel but it doesn't fit with a dual battery in front so need to come up with a solution.

I got myself a cheapie knockoff Safari from ebay.

This kit moves the air box up and back to make room in the spare battery tray on the passengers side.
It comes with all the fittings and brackets to affect the mod.

There is a blanking plate/grommit in the kit to seal off the original intake port on the airbox and there was a new metal intake port doodad supplied and you need to cut a new access port in the air box for the new snorkel intake port
Pretty easy stuff, I remember paying $85 for mine, and I got a cheapie 83mm holesaw to cut the panel to fit the snorkel.
About the hardest part of the operation as I remember it, was removing the inner plastic panel between the outer quarter panel and inner quarter panel.
Needs to be removed to allow the fitment of the tube between snorkel and airbox(s-shape) and the large clamps.
The s shaped tube in the kit was plastic(hard plastic), but I would have preferred either a rubber or silicon type.

Depending on the D1 model(early or late) and where the power steering reservoir is located .. it's easy to then just plonk a battery into the new clear battery tray area. Easy to work out bracket fitting placements and all that stuff.
If you can't be stuffed moving the power steering reservoir, I've kind'a worked out that the largest battery size you can fit in the tray is a NS70.
If you move the reservoir you can easily get a N70ZZ(basically truck battery) in there.

My theory with the best all rounder battery type to use was primarily based around modularity .. or lowest common denominator.
That is, worst case scenario, if my start battery simply committed suicide(eg. dead cell or just plain old weak build quality) .. and I had to replace it without access to services, I could exchange the Aux battery into the start battery's spot and continue on.
So I made a concerted decision to get an Aux battery the same size and terminal config to suit the start battery position too.

I'll try to get some pics of the air box install as soon as I can for 'ya. The only problem is that you won't see the large metal bracket that moves the underside mount holes(where the air box is pushed into to hold it into place).
    Arthur.

What motor does your Disco have? I have V8 on gas and that is whole different set of issues. Got mine now set up with a dual battery. Blind persistence over come those issues.

I also have the v8 on gas. the unit sits exactly where the snorkel port is located which seems like an engineering blunder.
I thought there would be plenty of room for both snorkel and battery in that area... my Jack still lives there.
I have space where the previous owner pulled out the A/C Compressor.

I had to make a custom air box, made from a of the shelf tool box. In side the air box is a K&N pod filter. This then allowed enough room for a battery.

Thanks to AULRO members on this post

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. In searching for the optimal solution , I have a picture of an install with the S connector from a snorkel kit that is not available in the US but I have seen on eBay in Vietnam and they want $200 USD and $189 USD to ship to US. I was hoping that someone down under may recognize this piece and have access from a wrecked D1 or in someone's garage unused for a project that they would be willing to part with. This "S Connector " is unique in that the body is flat and square instead of round to better fit between the inner wing and the air cleaner box. (Sold as S33 or S033). My D1 also has antilock brake setup behind aircleaner. I'm also a member of Arizona Land Rover owners (AZLRO) so check out our website on the interweb.

I will be generous to anyone who can find this piece or kit for me there. Engine is petrol V8S33_ebaynew2_h.jpg

I think this is made by airflow kit # S033 and sold by "B4WDAust" but I can't seem to find a dealer in the US for this. Any help appreciated.

I was missing this bit as well for a D1 and I made up a satisfactory substitute using 70 / 75mm plastic plumbing bends (ex bunnings).

being from the US i assume that you are on a left hand drive vehicle, so not sure how it affects what i am about to say.

i have dual batteries and my car has a safari snorkel which i think is designed to fit vehicles like mine. basically that B4WD kit you sent above, if you look at the snorkel it is longer and goes further to the front of the vehicle, closer to the air box. i think with dual battery though it might not work. i have seen a US vehicle which had dual batteries and a similar longer snorkel that then cut into the front panel and went directly into the side of the air box.

my safari snorkel basically cuts into the front panel further back and comes in sort above the shock turret flush up against the window cleaner reservoir. it has a few bends and shape changes to go around the obstacles and then goes towards airbox and comes in underneath it. i made a thread a while back because i wanted to know if there was a less restrictive way of getting air into the turbo, which is how i came across the US vehicle i mentioned above. i think the snorkel was fitted on opposite side of vehicle compared to mine though. i would like a system where i have a longer snorkel which goes directly to side of airbox with less bends and restrictions. was thinking of getting some custom made system out of aluminium but i have more important things to do for now. maybe one day. fairly popular over here the custom snorkels. not sure if the same craze is happening there too.

on my lunch break i'll go out to my car and take some pics to show you what my setup is like. give me a few hours.
