Have just got to Autobarn and gotten a Female ISO to BARE adaptor harness and tested the bare copper to a speaker I've pulled out already and it works..
I guess I'll have to re-wire the whole series of speakers manually.. But at least I have a work around now!
Will post if I ever find the actual break point from the "stereo-factory harness-speakers"
My '97 300TDi hides the amp under the front passenger seat.
Driver sits over the CD changer.

Its okay now. Have wired the front speakers directly to the head unit. Seems to be working. No shorts anywhere thus-far.
Now just need to hookup the rears and perhaps change the front 4inchers to 6.5inchers
There seems to be enough space near the doortrim bottom wells.
