Thread: Rear sway bar bushes

Should be OK on level ground, no real tension in the device. Consider re-using the old bolts and nuts if not worn to any significant degree, bit of low strength lock tight if you're really worried about coming undone. Hard to tell from the photo, but your beginning thread looks a little roughed up, and a touch up with a triangle file might aid in installing the new nuts if they are indeed correct thread pitch. But really, if the old nuts go on with no troubles then the new nuts are wrong.

Thanks for the advice, that's great. Will strip it down clean it up and see how it goes when refitting.

If you are just replacing the bushes on the link there is no reason to drop the swaybar. Leave it mounted in the D mounts. Just undo the bolt/nut on the link, pop out the old bushes and put the new ones in. Torque setting is listed in Rave. I did my fathers 98 D1 recently.

I have now replaced the driver side bushes. But when I dismantled the bolt there was a washer on the bolt head side and no washer on the nut side. The first pic attached shows one washer only. The second pic attached shows the new bushes mounted with only one washer. The third pic attached shows the bush being squashed by the sway bar.

Is this ok ?? Should there be another washer.

Haven't checked mine(actually bit of a lie! .. did check under the car this morning, but can't remember the setup!) .. but anyhow, according to rave for D1, section 64, rear suspension ... there should be a nut and washer and a bolt and washer.

Yes I did see in the rave it says nut and washer, but I also see that roverparts.com.au has a washer between the sway bar and the bush, not the swaybar and the nut. It's part WC116101. So that's 3 possibilities if you include no washer.

It's not clear to me which is the correct setup.

Just had a quick squizz on mine, and the 'nut' washer is between bush and the bar, not on the nut side of the bar.
Mine were change as part of the roadworthy the previous owner did.
