I really don't know of any that are proper enthusiast specialists here in Melb. I had it up at a place called Uptech who are really great but they are a long way away. Maybe Les Richmond Automotive but I hear he's pretty dear. I know there are some really good ones in other states like Perth, Qld or SA but yea I'm not sure about Melb either

The joy of a cheap job can fade into the ether pretty darn quick when things go pear shaped. .. you do need to get someone familiar with these engines to take a look. I can't yet see your video but when i can I'll let you know what i think...☺

The big problem here is the distance from the Op

I passed that test with flying colours!
A confirmed glutton for punishment was the end result .. hence my lifelong preference for most Rover products .. up to and not including the horrid Honda years!

Not just the distance, the reality of the public transport system has more to do with it than anything else .. not easy to go from Kew to Monbulk via public transport.

Ben came over to my place a short while back and we think we sorted the rattly noise.
Hopefully he'll confirm it when he's available again, but the new fuel pump has a slightly loose priming lever. Doesn't really lock into the up position as well as the old pump does.
So the lever flaps up and down like the clappers as the pump does it's pumping thing.
We flipped it back up again and the rattle definitely came from there once it was locked back up again. Question is, with the vibes of a Tdi, will the priming lever stay locked upwards.

I've been thinking about it, and if it comes loose again, it(the lever) may need a slight amount of pressure (towards the front of the car) to create a better frictional resistance on the body of the pump to stop it from loosening again.

From the short drive we did around my place, his Tdi sounds solid and strong too.
The only problem I now have, after that drive, is that his new Wrangler muddies have me hooked! ... and I'd prefer to spend those $s on things I want/need more than a set of tyres I won't need for a couple more years yet!
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!

Just thinking, they are probably worth noting as a repair centre in that part of the world then. Very few places want to work on these cars😣

Distance I don't mind!(my mechanic is over 110klm away from me) and just the other day .. having a need to get out, I drove to central west NSW fro a couple of days R&R .. so distance .. not a problem.

And my thoughts re helping is that most of the time you learn something yourself, in the process.
Done that too many times now to know that's why I like 'helping' folks.

Built walls, verandahs, concreted driveways .. etc. always learn a new thing or two ever time.

Helping Ben today helped me to confirm a suspicion on my Tdi today .. so it ended up being more of an enlightenment for me than of real help to Ben.

Uptech were most certainly legends, Tony is a complete gentleman and I'd recommend them to anyone and I really wish they weren't so far away because while they are happy to make sure everything is great, it's just so far to keep going up to. I'm sure I'll be up there once or twice more this year, they are trustworthy folk and they do great work for great prices too. Plus Tony loves Land Rovers and he drives them too, has a great older Defender and some others, prefers the older ones and loves the 300Tdi...now that's the guy I want working on my car! Just wish he was in Kew and not Monbulk haha
