If there was a nick in the steel pipe you would have traces of oil seeping out of the crack.
Is that oil mist covering the silicone?
I have several silicone hoses on mine and they all seem to be covered in a fine film of oil.

There are a few you tube videos showing carbon deposits on VNT turbos , worth a look .
I did the mr muscle trick on mine and there was a notable improvement , I will do it again soon to see if I can get any further gains .
So this is to clean the inside of the manifold of any gunk buildup? Looks like it might work, not sure how comfortable I am spraying oven cleaner into the air intake though haha.
Can anyone comment on what they think about that FBD rebuilt and ceramic coated turbo and manifold kit? It looks decent to me but I don't know squat!

That non silicon hose is a rubber covered metal pipe.

Mine's also always covered with a fine mist of oil too.
Weird tho.
I just assume that it's due to the oily nature of a diesels induction system.
I have plans to replace the standard oil cyclone/catch can thingie with a better type .. see if that helps.
I think the 'nik' on the rubber section of my steel tube is worse than yours. I have a deeply nicked v section.

Haha okay maybe the nick is nothing to worry about, come to think of it though I'm not sure the silicon hoses got replaced on my latest trip prep maintenance...maybe they didn't...I'll have to check the receipts but I looked in my spares box and there were no old spare blue hoses in there.

my understanding of silicon hoses is that should last a million years(or so) .. maybe miles .. could be kilometers .. can't really remember !
basically, they're impervious to oil .. so instead of 'soaking' in the oily residue, like everything else in the engine bay does .. it 'beads' on the surface of the silicon.
Like water beads on freshly waxed cars .. not that I know anything about that, as I rarely wash(let alone wax!) my cars.
I usually just wipe the hoses with an old rag, sometimes I have some rag with left over cleaner on it (eg. carby cleaner, degreaser or WD or something) and it cleans it just a bit nicer again.
