    EGT Gauge Lights

Recently fitted one of those small rectangular EGT gauges bought from ebay, they seem to be fairly generic and sell from $80 to $100. To my 300tdi RRC, it seems to wok OK and temps seem to correspond to what they should be. My question is about the screen, which is OK during the day but very bright at night, does anyone know if the lights can be dimmed?
Question 2 Am going to buy an Engine Guard kit and having recently converted from manual to auto was considering buying kit with 2 probes and fitting one to the auto, has anyone done this, and where did you connect the probes.
    Thanks Joe

The lights should be dimmed according to the device. For example mine is just one of the settings buttons that I press to change between bright and dim mode. Failing that, I once used to place a cloth over the top, enough to read the gauges and dimmed pretty well.

The vdo one i have has a wire which you can connect to your headlight cct and will dim when headlights are on. Or you just earth it along with neg wire to give it single function. I chose the latter.

My earth for it is under dash, so not a good earth point and i have the opposite problem that at night it looks perfect but in the daytime it’s hard to read.

    On to do list.

Check your wires. Yours might not have that option. Maybe give it an average earth like i did n it may look better. Mine is earthed to steel bar under the fuse panel below steering.

Thanks for replies, what I ended up doing was just to go over the lights with a dark texta seems to do the trick, but will check the buttons again to see if any work as the instructions are next to useless.
