Option 3 is the Allard VNT. They give you 2 stages to choose from too.
Are you planning to upgrade the intercooler too?
The Allard option is priced between the Allisport and MD options.
Hi
I am considering splurging on a VNT for my D1 300tdi. Appreciate any experience or tips on which way to go from people who have done similar.
I already have an upgraded intercooler and IP tweak. Just looking for a bit better low to mid range performance for hilly country and towing the camper.
Yes I know it is a lot to spend on the old girl but I like her and she has many new/replaced bits and is a good reliable truck- and I dont want to join the dual cab ute or Tojo herds.
2 options I am aware of:
Allisport: Bolt straight in no other mods required. Uses same plumbing.
Discovery 300 Tdi VGT Uprated Turbocharger - AlliSport
I am informed by them that using a snorkel will invalidate the warranty as they are too restrictive and that this can damage the turbo. As I need the snorkel this may not be an option?
M&D Engineering:
Kit 28
Turbo Power Improvement (Disco) Stage 1 | Motor & Diesel Engineering (Anglia) Limited
I am informed that this kit is fine with standard intake with a safari snorkel. Not clear why std intake can cope with this one but not the Allisport one? Perhaps the new manifold is the factor?
This is more expensive but perhaps the better option?
Edit....2 others:
Bellauto: https://bellautoservices.co.uk/store...-hybrid-turbo/
Allard: Allard Turbo Sport - Defender and Discovery 200 & 300 TDI

Hi
I already have an upgraded intercooler.
Thanks for the info - that is 3 now to choose from.
Added Bellauto product - that makes 4.
How to choose between them?
Awaiting response to some emails.
I have been informed by Bellauto and Allisport that the Safari plumbing is problem for their (identical) units.
Apparently the plumbing from the air cleaner to the turbo flattens under high boost when it is hot and generally the flow through the system is not quite sufficient for good high boost performance.
However - M and D reckon there is no such issue with their system - which brings the prices closer together if I dont need to replace the snorkel.
But I dont get wht the M and D kit wouldnt produce the same problems - I will go back to them and enquire further.
Has anyone used a safari snorkel with their VNT?
thanks
That part of the plumbing in a LR part, not Safari. Quite easily replaced with silicone bends and stainless exhaust pipe sections anyway
The Pipe from the air box to the safari snorkel is somewhat restrictive. But would only be an issue if you are looking for a big HP upgrade, with a mild tune I think it will be fine.
I had a pretty aggressive tune and it was not a problem.
Is the M & D kit running less boost?
I had a DIY GT2256V with a safari snorkel, I changed out the ducting as above because it would not fit anyway. The only problem I had was keeping intercooler hoses in situ
Thanks Simon great info.
Yes I am only looking for a mild tune so the rest of it shouldnt matter
Any pipe work b/n box and turbo would need flaring on it to secure the hoses - I suppose an exhaust shop could do that.
I have had further chats with Allisport and will probably give theirs a go. Apparently the Defender plumbing is more prone to vacuum collapse than the Disco. So I will give it a try as is and replace the box to turbo piping only if required. Anyone know if I am likely to be hit with some kind of import tax on a purchase like this?
I think under $1000 there's no duty at this stage.
