    ECU failure / life expectancy D1 v8

I was wondering if there is a typical life expectancy for the main ECU on the disco v8, either in years or kms. Looking for general opinions etc.

I have a 95 with 276000ks on it, recently found a few bits of rust so slowly going over the whole vehicle to ascertain if there is anymore terminal rot, which will then help me determine if it's worth keeping it or scraping it. If I decide to keep it, I'm planning to start replacing components before they fail and leave me stranded somewhere. Found a place in the Uk Atp, that sells new excuse for 225 pounds. They also do Lucus airflow meters and other bits.

The ECU's don't fail but things like MAF's and TPS's do, along with ignition modules, idle steppers and fuel pumps. I just replaced a TPS on a friend's '97 D1 with a second hand one I had around, solved a major intermittent power loss problem. Online, I found two for sale, a new one for $600+ and a used one for $35.

Thanks Guys, 700000, that's re-assuring! Yes, the MAF and TPS are items that are on the agenda. Did the fuel pump about 10 years ago ( the original made it to 243000kms, ) and since the the car has only done 33000 odd, as it doesn't get used that much, but planning to do a bit more travelling soon. I noticed that the TPS is hard to come by and well over priced for what it actually is. Done a bit of searching in line and found a TVR parts supplier in the UK doing an aftermarket one for about 160 pounds from memory. I'll dig it out and post the site address.

Get one from Tim. Cheaper and a much nicer bloke to deal with.

SP002 Rover V8 Throttle Pot upgrade kit - ACT Performance Products - your source for after market TVR upgrades, components and performance accessories.

The plug is a round type that does not fit all models, but the kit includes both halves and instructions how to change it.
