The long to do list. My D1 V8

Since being on here I've had a few problems with the disco so I thought I'd just start a thread and update it as I get along. It's getting to that age were everything is wearing away, 370xxx and I've been driving for about 2 months without the speed sensor in so probably 380xxx.

I've only had it for 6 or so months and I love it. I'm used to old bangers so it's luxury to me and being and ES it's got most of the features.

So far since owning it's been pretty problem free only a bug with the ignition really got me. My garage is owned by my series so I can only work out side when I get the chance. So things don't get done as quick as I'd like too.

Here it is, I'm sure people have longer but.

Main things I need to do in order (sort of)

*Adjust timing and find what plug is misfiring
    *Stop the idle from fluttering
    *Engine service
*Trans service and hopfully stop leak
    *Rear diff service
*Find and fix all the other oil leaks
*Coolant Flush and renew and temp sensor
*Both swivel seals are leaking everywhere
*Front brake pads just started squealing
*New vehicle speed sensor or find another reason for cutting out
    *Rear swaybar mount bushes
    * Another new Rotoflex until I get new propshaft with uni
*Abs light stays on sometimes goes off, I'm thinking coz off all the swivel oil
*Balance and alignment could do with new off road tyres there getting low

And all the other stuff doing my head in and the wants

*Fix sunroof leak just needs a tighten
*New headlining, I've had it out for a while now I'm getting over it
    *Cigarette lighter needs fixing
    *Rear windows sometimes work
    *Leaky windscreen
    * New door seals and seal a few bolt holes in the floor, I've had mud and water all over my feet a few times now. And I know the kick panel is full of relays....
*Relay constantly clicking I think it's the indicator contacts
*a little lift to stop front wheels from scrubbing when off road flares would be nice too
    * Bull bar and bash plate, I'm suck of my CB aerial flapping around and the wombat bars pretty bent
    * Temp gauge and alarm maybe electric fan
    * probably weld up some side steps/sliders
    * Alpine windows are getting rusty
*Safari ladder I'm pretty short and I have a full length rack I use everyday for timber.
*Neaten up my rear storage shelf
*Cargo barrier so I can really load the back up

And of course all the other bits and bobs we all wish we had on our landys

I'm sure I've missed heaps but I'm over it now and if you have read all or even some of this then you for your time!

Cheers Jim The long to do list. My D1 V8

Thank you very much! I'm pretty familiar with most of it or have done similar on other cars but help is always grateful!
I agree it's not that bad it's all small stuff and really just shows it's ks. At the end of the say I enjoy doing the work when I get the time so it's not the end of the world.
If I wanted to park it in the driveway every night and not worry about it I would have bought a Toyota but how boring is that!
    Thanks again

Hi Jim, the rear windows intermittent working is usually a dry joint on the window ECu. here is a link. it is a common fault.
    hope this helps

The VSS effect on idle is only to "idle up" when nearly stopped to ease the change in first.

It should not affect idle when stationary.

    Regards Philip A
If the speedo works the VSS is OK.

The reason I think my VSS is playing up because when I hit 2000rpm whilst driving the engine cuts out like it's hit its speed limiter. I've unplugged it and it's fine now I can drive no problem just no speedo cruise etc I'm sure it's sends signals to the ECU for other things also.
Lucky i have my phone speedo not the 1st car I've had no speedo In!

Hmm, The VSS also gives a rev signal to the ECU when the car is moving, revs are over 1500RPM and TPS is reading less than 0.49 volts. This means that the car is overriding while moving and the ECU cuts off the injectors until under 1500RPM.

I would also be looking at your TPS and its circuit . If the TPS is not registering over 0.49 volts it may cause the injectors to be turned off , although it didn't do that when my TPS was partly disconnected.

This is the other thing the VSS does, but I was replying specifically about idle.

    Regards Philip A

If the TPS has a gap in it's track it may go under 0.49 volts momentarily. You should check the TPS output with a multimeter to see that it has a smooth transition of increased voltage from under 0.49 up to about 4.8volts. It is just like a volume control and is the most wearing part of the injection..

Ok I'll defiantly test it all before I purchase a new VSS thanks very much. I've been getting away with it but it's bloody annoying without cruise and an accurate speedo.
    Cheers

Hey mate I just had a quick look at the TPS and according to the 14cux manual it's ment to have slotted holes. Mine dosnt I'm assuming it's so it get replaced rather than adjusted. Do you guys just drill some slots in it or am I going at it completly wrong lol

    Cheers Jim
