Alright so I'm trying to sort out this bloody rattle, I'm pretty sure it's the trans brake rattling. I can can hear it only when I'm not accelerating. When I accelerate it goes away same when I pull the handbrake up.
I tightened the nut on the drum not heaps but gave it a couple of turns. The handbrake is much tighter now only needs one click to stop the car but the rattle is still there. Do I need to tighten the drum nut up and loosen the adjuster of the handbrake or something?
Another strange noise I'm trying to sort is from the front wheels. I thought it may be from the front wheels out of alignment.
When I turn the wheel even slightly i can hear some grindy rubbing noise. Not a clicking CV sound though. My swivels are leaking like a siv, does anyone know if they get noisy when empty or low? I was gonna pump some grease in them for now I don't see me changing the seals anytime soon. I'm gonna go get an alignment tommorow I had a quick go at it but I have no level ground I was gonna jack it all up to level but for the sake of $60 I need the wheels balanced anyway.

    Cheers all
    Jim

Whats the doughnut at the rear like?

Secondly yea i would be looking at dry swivels. A good option is to change out the gasket and rip another out to make them oil instead of the grease. Easier to refill.

The donuts well on its way out, it's the old one before the cheap one died. It's not the same noises as I had when the donut went beforehand so I am gonna rule it out for now. I changed the oil in the swivels a few weeks ago but I think most is it has leaked out now. It wasnt leaking so bad before maybe it already had grease in it. I don't really wanna grease em but honestly can't throw the cash at it right now I need brake pads so that's were the LR funds are going this week. I still have a bottle of oil maybe I'll fill em back up and see if it shuts it up.

    Cheers Jim

If there not setup for oil then its not a good idea i think? (please the more wise here correct me if im wrong)
You need to pull a seal out by memory to allow it to get the oil from the diff. Thats why a new seal is normally standard, to stop the buggers leaking. Old seal and its sure to leak like a sive.
Get that one shot stuff and fill it with that. Wont leak then.

I could have sworn the D1 had one shot mate.
I have to step aside for the night, few too many sherberts, i could be leading you astray and i dont want to do that.
I was sure it was and i did a seal thing.. Im sure of it hahahhaahah.

    Await others to clarify.

A link from a drunken man

Land Rover Discovery 1, One Shot Swivel Grease Sachet | eBay

They sell it mate. Seems its a solution to a problem rather than factory sorry my mistake.

STC3435 grease. 1 tube each side, no seals to be removed. The price on that link is wrong!

Well I'm convinced I've got dry balls hahaha so I got some LMM grease from repco, best I could do on the fly. Soon I'm gonna gonna drain the oil out if there's any left in them and grease em up!
Also got a fuel filter I'm hoping that might help with it running rough.

Alright so I managed to get it done easy enough without the 1 shots. I made my own out of a glad bag and silicone tip it worked a treat.
A thimble of oil come out of both so hopfully it quiets down now.
I forgot to adjust the handbrake the wind was bloody annoying so I wanted to get out of it.
I'll take it for a run later and see how it sounds.

    Cheers Jim

    Love your thinking Jim.
Hopefully that slows or even stops the leak.
To clarify what i said earlier, i think i dropped one seal inside so the bearings get oiled by my swivels. Turning 3 chambers into 2.
I really cant remember what i did or why hahahhah. Must smoke less pot!!!
I do now run oil when originally it was 1 shot. I replaced the main swivel seal to stop the oil leaks or atleast slow it

I just do stuff for the sake of doing stuff though. Tinkering in the shed, life is boring so i tinker.
