245/75's on a std auto tdi, you should be getting something like what Verne calculated .. 2150-ish .. (give to take some).
Actual tyres will make a slight difference of a few rpms at 100.

I went from smaller 255/70's to 245/75's and revs bumped up a teeny smidge(maybe 50 rpms) .. I'm putting it down to the brand of tyres being slightly different.
But at 100 now with the 245/75s, I get closer to 2200, than the 2150-ish with the 255/70s.

top gear at 1750 should be right on lockup at ~80k/hr.

Have you changed your alternator at any time? Can you see that it's been changed from what would be an old looking original.
Alternator pulley size determines RPM at the tacho.

So at 80k/hr, what RPMs are you getting?

Another possible reason for such low readings at 100k/h could be slipping pulleys(either alternator or harmonic balancer)!!!

Or as Manic said. . someone's fitted a 1:1 transfer case at some point.
    Arthur.

Running a 1.4 tc in mine, 200tdi manual on 265/75’s. personally wouldn’t consider it on any smaller tyres (had 31x10.5’s for a bit). 33’s would work well with a 1.4 tc in a disco I think.

4th on the auto is a taller than 5th on an lt77

    Revs at 100kph:

    245/75 on zfauto+1.4tc = 2490

    265/75 on lt77manual+1.4tc = 2542

FWIW i have standard gearing 5 speed manual tdi on 245/75 and my speedo reads ~2250rpm at 100kmh road speed (95kmh on speedo) in 5th gear. when i had std 235/70 it was more up around the 2500rpm mark.

Seems like a have a 1.003 rrc transfer case. Ill have to grab the serial number as it prob be a roller bearing transfer case. Cruising is not bad when empty. After all which cars cruise at 1750 rpm. On the open high way its not bad. By changing to 4.37 cwp i would be sitting at around 2200rpm. Is it going to chem more fuel? Would you feel inprovement take off in high range? Better downhill braking offroad-inprovement for vhc?

You would have much better low range if you leave the tcase and swap your diff gears
