blue smoke at idle rough idle

Drove to work today in 1998 disco 1 TDi land rover motor, 177000 km engine, regularly .....no issues on the way to work, then noticed slightly lumpy idle pulling into car space, after work started car no issues, but noticed lumpy idle, accelerated onto road and lots of blue smoke, however it cleared itself once cruising at 100 kph, no engine noise, running cool, though it appeared to be slightly down on power, but didn't "appear"to miss.
Pulled up at traffic lights immediately puffing out smoke with miss in engine, engine clears itself once running and got home, idle engine missing and blowing blue smoke, rev it and it clears itself, idle again rough idle and it misses with blue smoke, engine not down on oil or water and runs cool

my question is......faulty injector? tight valve?...........if so why would it blow blue smoke?

I cracked each injector line and found cyl 2 is the one missing.........My next question would be that if the Injector pump (just read up about) is a piston monitored delivery pump, so there fore if pump was faulty all injectors would show up as the same when I crack the injector line?

    Indicating a faulty injector?......thoughts.

I'm not sure, but for the cost of a couple of injector washers, you could possibly swap a couple of the injectors around to possibly eliminate (or identify) the injectors as the problem.

Check that one of the valve lash caps hasn't fallen out, that can result in a bad idle all of a sudden.

Drop round to Sutton motors and get it checked out. Could be pretty easy fix, too.

    Arrow

Replaced #2 injector and washer, fixed, drives better than it ever has, obviously injector has been faulty for some time, but I thought it was sagged engine mounts as it was running ok or as I thought, I'm so happy with the way it pulls and runs I'm going to do all injectors
