Apparently the older version of these were Chinese made and had some significant issues. The new ones have better warranty period but still too young to know how good they are
Saw this. Apart from cringing a few times I found it interesting. Nice engine.

electronic 2.8 .. tuneable .. etc
Sounds appealing, but for the money .. why not just get something more readily available.
I 'spose for us RHD'ers ... maybe the mucking about with the steering box would have made the install a lot simpler.
I think those motors are close to 10K US .. in the US .. so unimaginably exxy by the time you got one here.

they have a WA sales contact on website. i put the question out there. just for giggles. ill report back.
that was quick, this is what i got:
Hi Valerio,
The Cummins R2.8 is now available in Australia.
Pricing is $15,990 AUD plus 10% GST each.
30 day validity.
Pricing includes delivery in the Perth Metropolitan Area only.
Dimensions of the Engine are located on the following link. However please don’t expect the Engine to drop straight in. It will be a full repower (just like any other repower) so you have to consider Engine mount modifications, check mounting compatibility of the flywheel/flywheel housing with your current gearbox, compatibility with your current diff/gearbox ratios, exhaust mods, intake mods, then installation of the new wiring harnesses and accelerator pedal. Then most importantly compatibility with your existing cooling package.
Repowering 4WD’s isn’t the core business of Cummins so we won’t be offering installation packages. That is left to the customer or they would need to work with another company capable of installation.
I have attached the installation guide above.

found this info from a US engine supplier:
Cummins R2.8 L Turbo Diesel Review | Big Bear Engine Company
which then brought me to this engine too:
Cummins 4BT Engines and Longblocks: Specs and Applications | Big Bear Engine Company
if anyone heard of these would be good to provide info. im assuming though that probably still dear to import and parts would be harder to get and why not just put an isuzu in.
The 4BT had been around forever.
Quite a few around.
Very similar to the 4BD1T Isuzu, but IIRC heavier?
Cummins
website:
745 - 782 lbs w/ oil (338-355kg).
From a forum:
4BT3.9 705lbs, 4BTA3.9 725lbs (dry with no f/wheel)
Isuzu
750 lbs net (340kg)
thats what i could find. not sure if the cummins means with or without oil. it sounds like with but by looking at numbers id say without.
I'd be more likely to convert to Electric than spend $15K ++ on a new diesel.
Wonder how long till Cummins sell crate electric drop in power packs.
PowerDrive for Electric Trucks | Cummins Inc.
Not sure about the long term viability of spending big $$ on Internal Combustion conversions / upgrades anymore . (or indeed an entire new ICE vehicle)
