    Intercooler from D2

Changing over my TD5 intercooler to D2a but that leaves me a D2 intercooler, is this a viable upgrade for the 300 Tdi?

reckon it would be if you could get it to fit.
D2 radiator is wider than a D1 so you won't have width issues on the inlet outlet ports, but the driver side will need some careful planning.
And there's not really a lot of depth ie. in front of the rad/condenser for it to mount.
You wouldn't want it in front of the condenser, as that would kill A/C performance, and it'd be a lot of modding mucking about with getting fans and stuff to fit/work.

Outlet and inlet are at opposite ends so a lot of piping required which will probably negate any improvement.
