I had a better photo on my old phone but this will do Disco 1

That idea works well. I did my Passenger front a couple of years ago from that idea on a UK Forum where the bloke cut up his 'er indoors Nylon cutting board. It works well IMHO because the square slides rather than rolls, so not a wheel, & a light greasing completes a satisfactory job.

Just another Land Rover design blip which necessitated an Owner fix.

I have never greased mine. As a general rule, nylon is self lubricating.

But why wouldn't one while the guts was all in bits & accessible? I was only talking a light smear.?

    Morning Gents

My sons D1 has developed a problem with the speedo. I drove it last night and it drops to zero and a few minutes later it comes back up to speed again.
On his old Jackaroo there was a speedo sensor on the side of the gearbox I had to change a few years ago, I am assuming the D1 has the same thing
or is it just a simple speedo cable into the 5 speed LT77?

All good, I just spoke to MR Auto's on another matter (for my 62 109") and Warren told me that its a sensor $85.00.
    Cheers Ian

Speedo or Tacho? If Tacho, my first stop would be the connections into the rear of the Alternator especially the small spade. If loose, the symptoms are the same as yours.

If deffo Speedo, be aware the alignment of the rotary sensor is not straight forward & for some reason seems to be mounted at an angle & makes the fixing screw alignment a bit tricky. You may also recall the wiring connection to the sensor is a tad vulnerable to damage.

    Bon chance.

I already had to fix the tacho fluctuating because of the alternator connection when we first bought it. Its the speedo sensor that's playing up. A new one arrived yesterday, now its just another thing I need to fix at home.
