    Help needed please

    Hello people,

My father in law is on holiday in oz, he's borrowed one of my discovery 1's, 300tdi auto, and he's just called me to say there is a problem with the car.

He's not mechanically minded and says there's a flapping /banging noise, his wife thinks from the front, maybe passenger side, which only happens whilst they're moving, idles and revs fine when stationary. I'm hoping he's got something wrapped around the prop shaft but he has a mechanic looking at it tomorrow, suggested by the air bnb host.

His description doesn't give me much hope of figuring out what the problem is, the main reason for the help is,

They are currently in Yeppoon in Queensland, does anyone have a good Land Rover mechanic in the town, or best place for parts locally, I'm just north of Brisbane so about eight hours away so have no idea about the area.

    Thanks for any suggestions

Ummm... I was stopped in my tracks once with a horrific clunking flapping noise....
turned out to be the front prop shaft sliding joint gaiter hoseclamp broke and gaiter rubber was torn...

looked fine on inspection, but while driving (started at slow speed ...20-30km/h) it hit the vehicle floor.... creating a terrible noise.
I just cut the gaiter off completely.

    Thanks for the replies,

Turns out the problem was loose wheel nuts, a quick tighten and all is well.

    Thanks again for your help
