D1 is awesome (Jefferies Track in the snow)

I have done Jefferies many times over the years but not lately and with all the wet and cold weather around at the moment in Hobart (like the rest of the south east) I decided that I'd had enough of work today and would go for a drive.
Ended up going south to north from Crabtree to New Norfolk. Nothing particularly different in that but as it was cold and snowing around the mountain and I was in normal casual gear (joggers on but boots and recovery gear etc onboard) I decided to be lazy and not do anything with the tyres etc and simply drive off the gravel road up the track on road pressures (I would normally have dropped to 25psi). The trip was a great chance to simply get away from work and breathe the fresh air albeit a "bit cool". The snow began to fall almost as soon as I started and continued most of the way.
The point of this post is to point out that after some 22 years the 1997 tdi 300 discovery is still a brilliant allrounder that you can drive straight off the bitumem on to a track made up of a mixed terrain of very rocky, clay, 1m deep water and snow in complete comfort and safety without any concern albeit a bit slower than normal. Then simply drive back home (via the bakery) to give the old girl a simple wash with a hose.
Yesterday I carted 1 tonne of wood up a wet clay track and straight on to the road home, again at road pressures etc in the almost new BFG all terrains.
This is my daily drive when in Hobart and I am still in awe at her abilities, both on and off the bitumem. She might not be as quiet or fast as my 2.7lt D4 in Sydney but I'm more than happy to keep her and use her when ever I need to go "anywhere". Over years she has had a regular dose of TLC from JC and it shows, thanks JC.
    NB Sorry but no pics.

I love these stories, so many people (wife included) ask me why I don't just get something newer? I say because this old girl (also a 300tdi) gives me confidence to go just about anywhere, even if not as fast as some more modern vehicles and I'm not going to be towing a massive caravan up and down sand dunes, but I love it and damn they are so great in all conditions of put it up against most other 4wd's on the tracks!

Pay attention to them and fix what you need to and they can be very reliable.

Since you didn't put up a pic I'm going to, just driving up to Hotham yesterday, bitumen only but steep windy roads in some slippery conditions, she works hard up the hill but doesn't complain and just gets you there, in pretty nice comfort too!

Haha, by the time the 110 is back in action, climate change will have covered the track in sea water! 😅 (I too would be keen for a night time snow run with Lucas equipped vehicles)
