    Progressive coils and dislocation cones

    Hey folks,
I am looking at getting some progressive rate coils from Dobinsons for the rear of my d1.
I have dislocation cones and the rig is setup flexyish. Does anyone know if the 'tapered' end of progressive coils fit on a dislocation cone the same as non-progressive springs? I guess the 'tapered' end has to fit in the standard coil mount so perhaps it will work with the dislocation cones fine?
    Thanks!

Might be wrong but I thought the taper was on the actual wire of the spring and not the overall width. I know king springs the wire gets thinner at the ends. Maybe just their thing though.

There is no taper on Land Rover springs. The dual rate is accomplished by making some coils closer together so that they bottom put and become inactive. Normally the close coils are put up.

King's use taper ground wire as well as progressive pitch, maybe he's confused with that?
I think Dobinson's just use progressive pitch.

    Rightio.

I was just basing my thoughts on this pic on the progressive rate Dobinsons springs:
    s-l300.jpg
It looks like a taper on the top to me... Perhaps its just a generic pic and not representative of the actual coils...?

    Generic pic.
Landie coils are squared and ground both ends regardless of variable or linear rate.

I'm thinking of having two sets of coils; using my current flexy ones for general use and putting in a stiffer or progressive set when i tour.

Thinking that perhaps this would keep the disco flexy on the weekends - do stiffer coils/progressive rate coils limit flex compared to softer coils?

kings have standard height coils, raised coils some of which are progressive coils and some of which are progressive and tapered. at least looking at this they have
LANDROVER DISCOVERY 1991 - 1/1999 - Fit your Vehicle - King Springs Automotive Aftermarket Springs

but then when you go here it gives the impression that all progressive springs they do are tapered

Progressive Rate - Product - King Springs Automotive Aftermarket Springs

i did speak to them a year or so ago but the guy i spoke to didnt really give me an answer that was clear enough, which left me still wondering what i was going to get. the terrafirma springs now are meant to be good and the website explanation is a bit more clear although i would probably still prefer kings because of their reputation.

for the front pretty sure id go for krft-03t but for the back unsure between krrr-04t or krrr-04hdt. i have rear draws long range fuel tank and full roof rack. but the HD is meant to be fairly harsh even though its progressive according to what the king guy said. but the -04t doesnt list any extra weight on the website so not sure is sufficient.

that's the info i got from them. maybe try calling them and speaking to them might get different answer.

I have dobinsons 2" lift coils all around at the moment and love them to bits!
The ride is superb with my Terrafirma shocks. I basically just keep the disco aimed down rough tracks and the suspension does the rest - you don't really need to miss holes and bumps
When i drive another vehicle i immediately realise that i have to actually steer around all the rough stuff... lol
I have a set of kings HD coils (not sure of the part number) on my V8 disco and always thought they were too harsh.

Are they just hd or hdT? I think there’s a difference between them. I’d like to think there is.

I have dobinson in mine with koni shocks (not rebuildable ones). I find my ride fairly harsh, less so when laden. But i did discover that my rears at least are actually D2 medium rate springs which equate to an almost hd rate for D1. They are also sagged n shocks worn which doesn’t help.
