If it is standard, it will be a 3.5 as it is too early for a 3.9 in a Disco - but the 3.9 was around in the Range Rover so if the engine has been changed it could be a 3.9
Look for the engine number, it will be on a pad between the left two centre cylinders (between the exhaust pipes) at the top of the block where the dipstick tube goes into the block. Check that number here Rover V8 Engine Numbers and it should tell you what you have.
Also on that pad with the engine number should be the compression ratio either 8.13:1 or 9.35:1.
