Ok cool, might bump it down the priority list but at some point get one. Thanks for your thoughts.
The factory’s fuel pump settings should mean you shouldn’t be concerned about EGTs with a standard tune. So I would go with coolant temp/level gauges.

Madman 2 is good. Bought kit. Has EGT, coolant temp, oil pressure, oil temp (which i use for tcase) volts, working hours. I then have separate boost gauge and low coolant alarm. I set them up on a mudpod. UK company that provides special pod that you can customise. Ill put pic up when i find one.
There’s a tutorial here or on web how to install on disco (as it is made for defender). Very easy though and looks neat
LOL! never heard of that one. Curious as to what it would be.
For sure, and unlikely that as it's been inherited from family, it'd have been tuned in any way.
But I had a collapsed muffler, which caused slightly higher EGT too.
I fitted a more open muffler, and no rear can, and EGTs dropped at least 50°C cruising, maybe a bit more up a long climb. Still not dangerously up into the 700's, but had seen up into the high 600's up the hill climb.
As I had no rear resonator, it did become annoying on a gentle cruise, so had one fitted. ARGGHHH!
EGTs back up again, so had to slightly detune the IP to keep it within safer limits, mainly on a hot day.
Now I just drive accordingly .. ie. back off when required.

I have seen the madman around,
Can get the ems2 kit from lrautomotive for $586. Is that around what you payed? Or should I look to order though madman’s website.
It says the madmen also has a low coolant alarm, does yours not or did you just want to seperate that?
Thanks for the insight.
Can’t remember where i got mine but was around 500. It does have low coolant but I didn’t like their system and the beeper on ems2 is not very loud.
There’s different ways to set up low coolant alarms. Some have float switches in expansion tank. I like the one i have.
Low Water Alarm Sensor
There’s plenty of threads here on it. Read them and make your choice.
Yeah I didn’t know if I liked the sound of the ems’s coolant alarm setup.
I have had the Enginesaver book marked as it sounds great. But once you add that $205 to say an ems, quickly a lot of money. Maybe for now I’ll just get an engine saver and engine guard dual temperature sensor. Look to an egt down the track.
Especially with an ems being around the price of a radiator rodding.
As mentioned, if you’re not playing with injector pump then egt not so important. But you need to make sure someone didn’t tweak it whilst your nan owned it.
Low coolant alarm on the other hand is always relevant. Coolant temperature good idea too as factory gauge is only good at telling you when your engine is cooked.
Re Roverlord....He seems to have a fair idea what parts are good or bad & only sell the good ones .
Most people on here seem to hold him in fairly high regard .
Otherwise beware there are a lot of very ordinary parts being sold for Landrovers .
