Yep I'm looking at the flexi flares from flatdog. I've seen lots of videos on fitting them - but they appear to only need about an inch cut off from the guard - which looked like that may not be enough clearance...?
It must be though as lots of people seem to run them.

Yeah, don’t think it needs much extra. I would be looking at rims around 0 offset. Sometimes run 235/85’s with std rims on mine, it looks kinda odd with flares, 0 offset looks better without going all the way to -25’s

Thanks for the tips. How far from the edge of your flares (presuming 50mm flares) are the 235/85s on 0 offset rims?
I only run 235/85 MT tyres on my Disco and love them, but i would love to get a better turning circle for all the overgrown tracks i do.

I have them on std (+33) disco rims. Run 265/75’s on 16x8 0 offset rims atm. Can measure tonite when I get home, will give you some idea, but they sit well inside the edge of flare.

One thing you may need to think of if adjusting steering stops for max lock, is cv’s don’t seem to like it, so try lay off the right boot a bit with it at full lock. Never broken a rover cv, but seen a few lux and cruiser cv’s go bang in this situation...

235/85r16 on a zero offset wheel shouldnt need flares, just a Camel Cut to the rear guard.

"Wolf" rims as fitted to later model 130 and military Defenders are one option for what you need. Comparison with 5.5 inch wide Series Land Rover and 7 inch wide steel Disco 1 rims I have:. Wolf steel rims are 6.5 inches wide. However, importantly, with their offset, when on vehicle the inner side of the rim is about an inch further out from the chassis than both the other types. I have a set of Wolf rims fitted with 7.50X16 Michelin XZL's on a LWB Series 2. Would never again want to put standard Series or Disco 1 rims on the front at least. Limiting factor with atrocious turning circle is tyre on inner wheel; hitting chassis and swivel housing stops are set to just before this. With Wolf rims, have screwed stops right back. Limiting factor then is travel in steering box when linkages evenly adjusted. which is just before tyre contacts chassis and as far as the swivel housings will accommodate anyway.

Note Wolf rims come in both tubed and tubeless types. However, seems many run the tubed type tubeless without problems. Would not try this on Series rims considering profile of the well. Note I also have a Defender with Wolf rims fitted with 2.35/85X16 Goodrich Mud Terrains. Height of these is effectively the same as the 7.50 Michelins so not major problem if two types need to be used on same vehicle.

Am not sure of offset of Disco ! steel rims that have had centres cut out, turned around and rewelded and repainted. LR parts supplier Anthony Johnson had a set for sale a few months ago. I am considering trying to just reposition centre to inner side of rim is an inch further out. For chassis clearance, would then be same as Wolfs.

    Thanks for the info!
I did some googling but can't find where to get details/buy wolf rims in Australia?
EDIT: I found that Terrafirma makes a steel of rim called "Wolf" maybe that is the same type as what your referring to?

Looks like the D1 Wolf wheel has a +21mm offset which is only slightly further out than factory...

Think from memory, you can gain maybe 3/4” offset by moving centres on a D1 rim. Flip the rim and you can get lots of offset, but something around 0 mite be hard. Been meaning to cut the centre out of a spare rim and see what’s achievable.
