    Why have an accessory relay?

Odd question but I had to swap out an old battery in the Jolly Green Giant (97 D1). All went well until I noticed, very quickly, that the radio and ciggy lighter stayed powered up when I turn off the ignition.
Hunted out the yellow relay (passenger footwell) and pulled it out to see if it was buggered and the radio turned off. Without the relay all seems to go OK.
So can someone who understands electrical stuff explain??
    Cheers

Without being able to test thing a little, initially it sounds like possibly a sticky relay that is stuck closed maybe? Give it a few taps and see if that sorts it.

Otherwise, relays are pretty cheap, even the higher current ones. Wouldn't hurt to replace it. Relays don't last forever.

I thought the same thing so that's why I started with the relay.
Put in a new relay and got the same result, radio stays on when ignition goes off.
I just can't think of anywhere else the radio and lighter circuit crossover, except in the ignition switch and as it turns off with no relay, it seems to be working OK.

    cheers

Hmmmm, odd. I'll try to dig up the wiring diagram this morning and see if I can find it for you. I don't remember that circuit straight off the top of my head.

I am in the middle of stripping crappy old wiring (mostly stuff from previous owner/s, a couple from me be lazy) out of my 96 at the moment, so it'll pay for me to know that one anyway.
