A few years ago I found a post(can't find it now) used an all aluminium Ebay cheapie in his D1, and reckoned it worked well.
General price is about $250-ish.
You can get aluminium/plastic(side tanks), and I can't imagine them being so durable(may be, just experience).
They seem to be in the $200-300(and a bit) price range. I can never understand why so much variance in price on those types.
All copper is expensive. Would be cheaper to get yours re-cored if you already have an all copper rad. ~$600
You can get heavier duty copper core made up too, if you're pedantic about it. I asked for a price some years ago(down here in Vic) and it came in at over $600(4 core).
Note: (seeing as I'm quite lazy!) I'm yet to fit my 3 core all aluminium Ebay rad($200) still! .. been near on 4 years now
Just too lazy and waited for soem other bits and pieces.
So as yet, no actual experience with it(how it cools), but is quite well made. When it came to me, was clearly evident that the idiot parcel handlers had damaged it from the top(side) and was a bit bowed.
Got a partial refund from seller(easier than send back and get another with probably the same idiot courier damage!). It's well made, welding is quite good.. not expert, but looks like it'll hold up OK.
Time will tell.
Reason I haven't fitted it was waited for thicker intercooler, and all aluminium frame(from Allisport). So I've had all the bits I wanted .. but still too lazy to fit it.
Actual reason I haven't is that the thicker I/C needs the LHD steering box bracket to be ground off first .. and that requires work .. and I'm lazy.
Having said all that tho! I'd recommend to check your thermostat first, unless you
definitely know your rad is not working efficiently.
I did a cooling system flush, so whilst at it and to be safe, I pre empted the possibility that my thermostat may not be working effectively.
Turns out it was, but the waxstat is slower to respond than the Tridon I purchased(just in case). Just testing on the stove in boiling water .. clearly shows Tridon both reacts faster and opening is larger.
Have you done a flush?
