    Discovery 1 Fan modification ?

    Hi

I note on my Disco 1 that it has had the fan mod completed by previous owner, I wonder how effective it is over the Original viscous fan ?? at what temp does the first of the two fans kick in ? and then the second ? anyone have experience with this mod ?
I've attached a picture of the fans and the sensors in the top hose which I'm assuming kick it into life at a given temp.

    Thank you Andrew

Andrew, just thinking it these were not working that might have lead to your original over heat problem.

It's usually not a bad mod, but it's vital that they are wired to turn the right way, ie, suck not blow. So many people screw this up. Obviously, it's also important to make sure the things turn on at the temp they are supposed to. That also gets screwed up.

My experience is that both fans kick in at the same time.

    Hi Mario,

Fixed them it was a disconnected wire hidden in a length of conduit : )

They both kick in at the same time and are very effective. Mistaken NOTE: They don't kick in at the same time, one kicks in about 85c next about 95c.

I do think they contributed to over heating by not coming in at a critical time but were not the cause of the initial problem. Crap radiator and cruddy/stuck thermostat. I super pleased with doing the overhaul on the engine and cooling system as it now runs beautifully : ) : ) .......for now !
