Hi again all,
Finally worked up the enthusiasm to have another look at the valve gear. Removed rocker shaft and valve lash caps and examined the valve springs, collets etc. as best I could with a strong torch, and took photos. I can't see or feel anything wrong. All the springs, spring caps and collets appear to be OK to me. Can any of you guys see anything amiss?
Re. Rover-56, Terry, I looked up valve head stand down in RAVE and that's something I didn't check before replacing the head with the original 3-hole thickness gasket. (due of course to ignorance). Now, I have access to a diesel compression gauge so, if I were to find high compression in one cylinder, what do I do to fix it please?
Also while looking up valve head stand down, I noticed the following section on measuring piston crown 'stand proud' (protrusion above the head surface), and found something else interesting I didn't know: that head gaskets come in a 0 hole thickness as well as the 1, 2 & 3 hole sizes I was aware of. And that the 0 hole version is in fact the thickest version!
So, knowledgeable ones (Blknight, JC etc.), if I were to pull the head again and perform the relevant measurements, is there a chance that a 0 hole gasket might solve my problems? Or should I just bite the bullet and fork out for another new head if I want to get rid of this issue for good?
Would much appreciate your suggestions.
