Drive line knocking noise
My D1 has developed a knocking noise, probably in the driveline, especially noticeable when slowing down in gear. It appears to be at the same frequency as tail shaft rotation. There is no obvious play in the universals or drive flanges, and I have just replaced the cvs and drive flanges on the hubs with good second hand units.
Any ideas on what to check out next would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Woolly.

The last time that I ran across this problem the sliding splines were seized up on the front drive shaft.

Thanks for that, I didn’t think to check that when I looked at the unis. Next thing I will do when I get time will be drop the drive shafts one at a time and see if that makes a difference, so I will look at the sliding joints then. Hopefully the noise won’t be coming from the transfer box or gear box, but it’s starting to look that way.
Cheers,
Woolly.

Ran out of things to check easily at home ( and patience) so took it to local LR indie who suspended it on a hoist and listened with a stethoscope and picked it as gearbox noise. Not going to be cheap to fix but I like the my Disco and we’ve had many good times together.
I guess I’m becoming a LR tragic!
Cheers,
Woolly.
