We have 245/70/16 Bridgestone HT 684s. We don’t do hill climbs at Glasshouse. But these have been a really good value all round tyre for road, bush and beach. They only have a 111 load rating, but the D1 is pretty light.
The previous owner had 245/75s, but I liked the stability/lower centre of gravity with the smaller tyres.

225/75 KL71's it is. Thanks everybody for your thoughts.
We're not supposed to name and shame on here so I'll be diplomatic: if anyone is considering tyres from that well known manufacturer Hifly, particularly the at601's, I would think very carefully about that:-)
Alloy. (That's the dark grey finish right?)
Will do:-)A photo when they are installed would be great.
I can understand that. I feel the 300tdi is just about right for a 2000kg truck - any less power would be too little imo but I don't like shelling out at the pump either so it's like the porridge in the fairytale- just right:-)I have A/Ts on mine in the standard size. Wan't to keep it standard ish as I tow a van a bit and don't have much power to lose!![]()
What is the relationship between tyres and power anyway? Didn't do physics but I'm assuming if the force is spread over a greater area (wider tyres) you get less power to push forward?
I think put simply it requires more torque and power to move something bigger and heavier. So you go up a tyre size, you lose power.
I plan on towing with my new to me D1 so don't have any power to lose!
Also want to make sure the cooling system is in top nick. I'm going to swap to a light bar because the big old driving lights also block a fair amount of radiator area.
Better late than never - haven't been on the internet so much lately. I'm pretty happy with the kumhos. Very happy off road, on road they are ok though you do get more vibration.
