I'm just doing my head gasket now. A word to the wise - there is a bolt that is behind the oil dipstick tube on the side of the motor. That is the block coolant drain. It's a 13mm bolt with a copper washer. Drain the coolant there BEFORE you remove the head so you get as little coolant in the oil as possible.
Don't do what I did and find out about it just after you've removed the head and put coolant into the sump.
Draining the block before you take the head off would be zero coolant in the sump.
Yes it's not that hard to drain off, but I would've loved to have known that before hand.
The block coolant drain is not mentioned in the 3 manuals I have. Which is a bit crap really.
This is one of the reasons to follow other folks that do this kind of stuff.
Even tho I've been lucky enough to go without such issues, watching Mike at 'britrest' Brittanica Restorations .. he has a lot of good advice tips and tricks he uses.
He's always on about that block drain ... and sometimes they get rusted in and can break .. etc.
Handy to watch some of his vids he's done back in time .. and he does this stuff almost daily .. so even maybe less than 10 videos back, he would have done a head gasket.
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
