Bloody thing will not start now!

So more dramas with the Disco.

A while back I had issues with crap in the fuel system cleaned the tank out new filters and found a horrible brown snot type substance blocking the banjo bolts pre and post the fuel filter. Cleaned everything up and car has been running OK but has felt a little down on power. Found the pipe to the boost compensator had worn through so patched it and that made no difference.

So yesterday I adjusted the tappets as they were due and took it for a test run, all OK started fine ran fine. Got home and parked the car up. Today the new boost compensator pipe arrived so fitted that and checked the diaphragm in the compenstaor while there and put it back in the same orientation. I hadn't started the car before doing this. Now the car cranks fine, has a bit of a splutter then dies. So far I've
    • Checked there is fuel to the IP, all OK
    • Checked the solenoid on the IP (can hear it click when power is applied)
    • Opened the injector line on the Injector on number 1 cylinder. A bit of fuel sprays out but not heaps. Not sure how much should come out.
    • EDIT: Must be getting fuel as there is white smoke.

So could it be a problem with the IP after having crud in the system? Timing gone out, don't see how that could happen overnight? At my wits end with the thing at the moment!

So cracked all the injector lines and there is plenty of fuel.
Ran 12 volts directly to the solenoid too in case it was closing when running

Enginge cranks fine and will give a splutter and try to run for maybe 1 or 2 seconds then that's it. So where to from here, check timing next I suppose and then maybe a compression test?

Sorry should have mentioned that, yes I did. I'll check this morning but I've got a horrible feeling the timing has gone out, maybe the belt has skipped a few teeth.

Timing is fine,, just took the inspection plate off and put a pin in the flex plate and check rockers on number 1. All good.

So back to fuel as a possibility, but there was a good shot of fuel coming out when I cracked the injector lines. Or possibly head gasket.

Did you put anything in to clean up/kill the algae after you cleaned it?
There is a good chance of an ongoing diesel snot problem for a while, would pay to have a few filters on hand.
Had a bad dose in a rodeo I used to own, couldn’t make it to work and back on a single fuel filter (about 100km)

Cheers Rick, I've put in a dose of DR diesel and changed filters again. Still no go.
Will check fuel flow again and might to a compression check.

So cranking but dying after a second or two. Then after lots of cranking finally fired up got it to idle but billowing white/gray smoke.
Tried to take it for a drive but zero power like it has no boost. I can hear the turbo spooling but the car barely moves.

    Thinking compression?

Compression won't die overnight. With what you've told us I'll bet it's the diesel algae. Just putting a shot of stuff in the tank won't fix that.
