Discovery 1 rapid blinking signal lights

Hello from Canada . Recently purchased a 1998 Discovery 1 and am working out some issues on it .

One of the issues I am currently working on is that the signal lights blink rapidly, both sides. Front , rear and the side marker lights are good. Bumper lights on rear have broken connectors. I am not sure if not having bumper lights would cause this.

Four way flashers work as they should.

Trailer wiring has been spliced in, I am going to look to see if the factory rover plug is there , not sure why previous owner wouldn't have used it. Trailer harness goes.from five to four wire which I believe is correct , but wires were spliced in to the bumper lights and a brake wire from rear tail light assembly. I will try and look tomorrow why factory plug under the tailight isn't there or if it is there at all.

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks a bunch

Do you have bumper indicator units and both connectors are broken?

If so then this is most likely the cause for the rapid frequency.

Yes, both sides the signal and running light for the bumper lights are malfunctioning due to connector problems.

I wasn't sure if this could be the cause as I think some people run aftermarket bumpers that don't have lights in them.

I will get some wired in and see if it goes back to normal. Haven't found any led bulbs in it so far.

It will be due to watts of the bulbs. You need a total watt load on the system, even if all of them work, it might not be enough to tell the system the lights are all working. Does that make sense?

Check the watts of each bulb and compare to stock. Might need to buy some higher wattage bulbs

    Thanks Sean!

I did wire up some extra lights and the blinking returned to a normal rate .

I managed to pick up a couple parts discoveries, or parts of them and got some new plugs that were corroded in the rear bumper turn lights. I think that should fix the issue!

I now have a couple rolling chassis, enough panels and fenders for three discoveries , and almost a 40 foot long sea can full of spare parts!

Now I just have to get brakes working good. They would barely slow it down in low range at an idle. Rotors are good and I am replacing the pads. They were quite worn . Hopefully the booster is ok, I should know this week.

Thanks again for the responses. I am new to land Rovers.
