Looking for Information on how to convert a series 1 discovery from IFS to live axle

I am currently in the process of selling my car and hoping to purchase something that is full time 4wd the current vehicles I'm tossing up between are the prado and the discovery however the main problem I have is that both have IFS which I'd rather avoid for a serious 4wd vehicle for a few reasons such as strength, reliability, and most Importantly maximum lifted height that can be achieved with the suspension this Is why I'm looking for companies that offer conversion kits for the discovery as it would allow me to achieve greater ground clearance than I would be able to with the stock Independent front suspension any information would be greatly appreciated

Well for starter the Discovery Series 1 is already live axle.

However I assume you actually mean a Discovery 3/4/5 which are IFS. The answer would be that is anything is possible but I doubt anyone does it and if they did it would be hellishly expensive.

I am not sure I would agree with all your assertions re IFS for normal offroad use but that would be a discussion for another thread.

Are you looking at a Discovery 1 (as pointed out, the D1 (and also the D2) have live axles), or a Disco 3 or 4 (both IFS)?

My D1 has a live axle front. It's for sale if you're 'really' interested ...

The problem with "lifted" live axle vehicles is that you've still got that big diff sitting in the middle, so you have to fit taller tyres to get clearance under it - re IFS, I don't think that (barring portal axles) there's any standard vehicle around that has the ground clearance of a D3 or D4. So converting one to live axles wouldn't make a lot of sense.

A Prado? and then you are going to ADD weight??
Just for giggles.. do you know my SDV8 RRS will out run a D4D Prado to 100kph-- with our 3T caravan on the back...
but then you can drive a prado into any 4wd shop, flash your plastic and drive out fully kitted to......... ?
Comparing a D5 to a Prado is just silly. The D5 was actually designed and runs tech from this century, Toyotas are always ten years behind on new tech.
and if you dont want new tech then-- we have a very active D2 Forum, that has all the Good Oil on live axle stuff

I'm pretty sure in QLD a 50mm lift is all you are allowed anyway..

a little fish tells me winter was bad down your way this year...

I remember the days when everyone was scared of the "electrickery" in the D2 because the wiring was more than just a pair of jumper cables. How we've progressed!

my guess was the OP was talking about a D3 as if one owned a D1 or D2 ya would already know its a solid axle setup.
