Alternator & Tow Bar
Hello,
The alternator and battery were recently changed on my D1 V8i (1997) - Everything electrical was fine until this change.
Randomly I've lost central locking, cig lighter, radio and interior lights (although these working when the engine runs). Everything else electrical seems to be working.
I've checked fuses and all seem to be good - but not yet checked the earth.
Is there anything else I should look for?
On a positive the engine is now running 500 revs less and much much smoother.
On another note, the jockey that I bought this from seems to have cut the electrics for the tow bar - I noticed, only recently, that the wiring had been balled and tied onto the frame. Is it easy to have this replaced? Or is it a more complex fix?
any help/advice/pointers would be great.
Thanks

Thats interesting. My D1 V8 has a high output alternator (I cant recall the amps), but it has the tacho at 800-1000rpm higher than what it should be.
Cheers

My Disco (98 v8) did similar thing randomly, twice in 2 years. No central locking, no radio, no interior lights, no indicators etc.
Started and ran fine with headlights working.
After many, many hours pulling hair out, finding nothing wrong, I decided to swap battery from other vehicle. All worked.
Noticed that the battery clamps were a bit corroded and gave them a good clean.
That was the issue, cleaned posts on old battery and refitted, problem solved.
My experience was always, dodgy battery connections = no start, but it did, some one suggested it may be more a case of
disconnecting battery to reboot ECU. No idea really, but it worked.
I hope yours is as simple.
