    No OBD that long ago.

NAS cars might have had something, but even if it has one it would need a dedicated scanner. No Aus cars would have had one AFAIK

What do you mean by dedicated, John?
The whole point of OBD was generic access, as limited, but not restricted, as OBD 1 was.

OBD has been around for a long time, Ian. There was no standard for it at all. OBD2 was sort of standardised, but not fully.

OBD2 wasn't a requirements in Australian cars until 2006. A quick google indicates Discovery's didn't get an OBD port until 1996. So if there is a diagnostics port on your car, it's likely to need a specific LR computer to talk to it.

I think I have that LR cable with T4 (Testbook) - I'd have to check the Testbook documentation.

My 1994 3.9 Disco used to go on a testbook all the time when the check engine light came on - the plug was in the engine bay on the drivers side. Similar to OBD but much earlier. Same as my diesel Freelander - no OBD but there was a port for reading and setting codes etc.

I use one of Steve Heath's ECUMate, but unfortunately they are NLA to buy new.

This site gives a good run down on the system, a lot can be checked using a digital multimeter
