Steering pump pulley has moved forward

    Thunderbird 2 our D1 tdi 300 1998.
The main fan belt I found was chewed out, replaced it with a new one only to have it chew out the engine side of it, I have a third one in case of total failure of the second, as it’s running on 4/5s of what’s left.
what would allow the steering pump pulley to move forward 7 mm or so.

    photo?

    I can't imagine.
If it were flange moving forward, you'd expect it'd be loose and wobbling about like a drunk.
If it were loose bolts holding pump to block(or ally housing part of it) ... again, you'd expect the side forces would have an obvious vibrational effect .. it'd be obvious.

I'd remove pump pulley(best to crack bolts before removing serp belt!) something should be obvious down there.
    Arthur.

All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
